Perm and Louisville cultural heritage project wins city’s social competition
The “We are the City” competition for socially significant projects has announced its results in Perm. The project “Perm and Louisville: the cultural heritage of our partner cities” was a category winner. Its main aim is to familiarise those who live in Perm with American literature.
The project included a competition to translate works by well-known Louisville authors who had not previously been translated into Russian. Participants were Russian and foreign students studying in Perm.
There are also plans for three online meetings of young people from Perm and Louisville. “Perm is one of Louisville’s most active partner towns. We’ve had many cultural, academic and other professional exchanges since the link was set up in 1994”, said Xiao Yin Zhao, Executive Director of the World Affairs Council of Kentucky and South Indiana.
Other parts of the project will include a photographic competition called “City and River”, a school competition “My favourite writer” to be written in English, and a conference for young people called “Perm-Louisville 2021: opportunities and prospects”.
